Toyota Canada Invites Innovators And Designers Of Tomorrow To Draw Their Dream Car Today

Oct 9, 2014

  • Toyota's annual Dream Car Art Contest returns with top Canadian "dream car" artists winning tablets and a chance to win an all-inclusive trip to Japan
  • On occasion of TCI's 50th anniversary, top Canadian winner in each age category will receive an opportunity to include their artwork in a special time capsule

TORONTO, ON., (October 9, 2014) — For 50 years, Toyota has been committed to investing in Canada, and Canadians have inspired and fueled the passion behind the company's commitment to the future of innovation and building ever better cars. Today, Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) is inviting Canadians to encourage their children to be the innovators and designers of tomorrow by using their imagination and creativity to create their ultimate "dream car".

"It is a joy to see how imaginative children can be," said Seiji Ichii, President and Chief Executive Officer, Toyota Canada Inc. "Nurturing that creativity at an early age is very important. It lays the foundation for the innovative thinking later in life that will result in the designers and engineers of tomorrow's vehicles."

Last year, four of the nine Canadian winners were selected among the top 90 global submissions of more than 660,000 total entries received from 75 countries. Special animated videos have been prepared to showcase the top 90 artwork, which can be viewed here.

Open to Canadian parents of children aged 15 and under, contest submissions will be accepted for three age categories: Under 8 years, 8-11 years, and 12-15 years. Entries can be submitted by mail beginning October 9, 2014 through February 27, 2015.

One winner and two runners-up in each age category will be selected by a panel of judges based on expressiveness of message, uniqueness and artistry. Each of these nine winners will receive a 7-inch, 8GB tablet with WiFi, along with the opportunity to be entered as Canada's representatives in the world contest. Ten finalists from global entries for each age category will be selected. In August 2015, each global finalist (and his/her parents/guardians) will be invited to visit Japan on an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the award ceremony.

On the occasion of Toyota Canada's fiftieth anniversary, a special time capsule will be created in commemoration. In addition to the annual prizes awarded to contest winners, the top Canadian entries in each age category will be given the opportunity to have a copy of their artwork included in the capsule.

Drawings can be created with any type of medium, including paint, markers or crayons. No digital creations are permitted. All artwork must be made on paper no smaller than letter (A4) and no larger than tabloid size paper (11-12 X 16.5-18 inches) and needs to feature a coloured background. The contest is open to all residents of Canada.
