Toyota is conducting a safety recall involving certain Lexus and Toyota vehicles

Jul 24, 2019

TORONTO, ON – July 24, 2019 – Toyota Canada Inc. (TCI) is conducting a safety recall involving certain 2019 Model Year Toyota Prius, 2019-2020 Model Year Prius Prime, 2019 Model Year RAV4 Hybrid, 2020 Model Year Corolla Hybrid and 2019 Model Year Lexus UX 250h and ES300h vehicles in Canada. Approximately 274 vehicles are involved in this recall.

In the subject vehicles, there is a possibility the brake booster pump may have been manufactured improperly, and in some cases, it may stop operating. If the brake booster pump stops operating, multiple warning lights and messages will illuminate, and/or audible chimes will sound.

In this condition, braking assist could be lost completely after several brake pedal applications, resulting in increased stopping distance.  In addition, the Vehicle Stability Control will become deactivated, and other vehicle features could be affected.  Deactivating the Vehicle Stability Control system may cause the subject vehicles to not meet certain requirements of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 126 (CMVSS No. 126).  A deactivated Vehicle Stability Control or a sudden and complete loss of braking assist while driving could increase the risk of a crash.

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail to return their vehicles to a Toyota/Lexus dealer. For all involved vehicles, based on the vehicle identification number or an inspection, Toyota/Lexus dealers will replace the brake booster pump, if necessary, with a new one at no cost to customers.

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is subject to change over time.  For the most up-to-date Safety Recall information on Toyota vehicles, customers should check their vehicle’s status by visiting Toyota.ca/recall or lexus.ca/recall and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). For any additional questions, customer support is also available by calling Toyota Customer Interaction Centre at 1-888-TOYOTA-8 (1-888-869-6828) or the Lexus Customer Service at 1-800-26-LEXUS (1-800-265-3987).
