The new manual transmission was engineered to support the shifting of the Corolla Hatchback’s 168-horsepower 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. With the ideal upshift, the perfect downshift and an easy-to-master clutch pedal, it’s smooth shifting experience makes this vehicle really fun to drive. The new six-speed is even dubbed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), because it cleverly matches revs when you downshift – meaning that when you release the clutch, it engages smoothly and is ready to accelerate.
The 2019 Corolla Hatchback is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), an entirely new platform that is both adaptable and advanced. TNGA gives the Corolla Hatchback a stronger foundation, which makes it 60 percent stiffer and has a lower centre of gravity than the model it replaced, allowing engineers to tune the suspension for greater stability in corners without sacrificing ride comfort and even reducing noise and vibration. It truly is the best of both worlds.
While the six-speed iMT will be the clear choice for enthusiasts, don’t overlook it even if you’ve never driven a manual transmission before in your life. The Corolla Hatchback is the first Toyota to be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0™ - the next iteration of their standard set of safety features.* Engineers have updated this safety package by adding new active-safety technologies and capabilities that enhance protection such as a Pre-Collision system** that can detect a pedestrian under low light conditions or a bicyclist during daytime a Lane Departure Alert*** system that is able to detect the road’s edge and a new Lane Trace Assist (LTA)**** system that reduces driver burden and supports safe driving, especially in traffic congestion or long highway trips, when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is engaged.
Beyond safety, the Corolla Hatchback offers an enticing list of connectivity features, including Apple CarPlay™ compatibility*****, and a standard 8-inch display screen for the easy-to-use Entune 3.0™ multimedia system. Entune has a wide variety of apps like Slacker, Yelp, Sports, Stocks, Fuel and NPR One, available navigation from your phone projected by Scout GPS Link, along with apps for weather and traffic incident news.Standard Bluetooth and USB means you can play your own music and podcasts on the six-speaker audio system. Moving up to the higher trims adds a leather wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, and wireless charging.
