The All-New 2019 Toyota Avalon has made its Canadian debut.

The mid-premium sedan received an all-encompassing makeover by Toyota’s design, engineering, and manufacturing teams and promises a number of Toyota firsts.

Apple CarPlay and Dynamic Auxiliary Turn Signals, available authentic Yamaha wood and aluminum cabin accents, and Engine Sound Enhancement will all be available on the new model.

The 2019 Avalon is at the Montreal International Auto Show, and subsequent Canadian Auto Shows this year.  Check out the footage from the unveiling last week:

Here’s a closer look what you can expect from the 2019 Avalon.

Exhilarating Design

The 2019 Avalon was built on a Toyota New Global Architecture platform similar to the one that transformed the 2018 Camry.

As with the Camry, the adaptable TNGA platform enabled a new expressive look, with taut lines and a sleek silhouette.

In addition, the 2019 Avalon will be longer, lower and wider, giving an all-encompassing, performance focused personality, with two distinct grades, the Limited and XSE.

More Power, More Efficiency

The TNGA platform also means a punchy V6 powertrain with more power but less fuel consumption than ever before. Achieving the two took the application of D-4S direct injection, along with an updated VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide) variable valve timing system.

The all-new TNGA 8-speed Direct Shift-8AT automatic transaxle gearbox merges smooth, precise gear selection throughout the RPM range.

The XSE grade will also feature steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters which give quick access to gear selection, and when downshifting, the gearbox will automatically “rev-match” for smoother shifts.

Opulent Interior

Inside, both driver and passengers enjoy a refined, spacious interior. Authentic materials, such as the available Yamaha-sourced wood-trim and authentic aluminum pieces, accent arm rests, centre console, and instrument panels bring a feeling of luxury and comfort.

For the driver, advanced multi-function controls are conveniently placed with a stylish aesthetic.  Past the steering wheel, a 7-inch Multi-Information Display (MID) shows vehicle information, turn-by-turn navigation, and various vehicle settings.

The Avalon Limited’s standard colour 10-inch Head-Up Display (HUD) – the biggest in the segment – clearly projects important info, such as vehicle and engine speeds, turn-by-turn directions, audio settings, and drive mode, right onto the lower portion of the windshield.

The engineers on the 2019 Avalon benchmarked the best audio systems, two vehicle classes up. The result: a 14-speaker, 1200-watt, precisely-tuned 7.1-channel surround sound that leverages the benefits of a robust TNGA structure

Apple CarPlay is standard on all grades, while XSE passengers can listen to crisp tunes having Entune 3.0 Audio Plus with Connected Navigation Scout GPS Link App and Entune 3.0 App Suite Connect, featuring in-vehicle third-party applications such as NPR One or Slacker.

Advanced Safety Technology

The 2019 Toyota Avalon comes with an array of safety technology. Part of this is Toyota Safety Sense™-P that includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Automatic High Beams.

In addition, the 2019 Avalon has Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Back Guide Monitor as standard. All grades also have 10 standard airbags and Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System, and Smart Stop Technology.
