The results are in. If you’re looking for a fuel-efficient SUV, look no further than the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year: the 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

More than 20 years after the original RAV4 defined a new vehicle segment, the Toyota SUV remains ahead of the game.

What is the Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year (CGUVOTY)?

The AJAC panel awards the CGUVOTY title to vehicles that meet the standard requirements for initial entry into the Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) awards.

For the green award, AJAC combines the SUV rankings with an additional set of green criteria. Alongside an overall greenness score, the judges consider emissions and how fuel efficient each SUV is.

The RAV4 was the top-rated SUV in several key ‘green’ categories. Given that the RAV4 Hybrid is built on proven Toyota hybrid technology it is no surprise the vehicle would perform well in any comparison of fuel efficient SUVs.

When combined with its overall Canadian Car of the Year score, the 2017 RAV4 Hybrid topped the SUV rankings by some margin.

Beyond Fuel Efficiency

RAV4 Hybrid in Blue
More than just a fuel-efficient SUV, the RAV4 Hybrid features bring a ready for anything capability and built-in confidence wherever you go.

Opting for a hybrid does not mean sacrificing performance. The RAV4 Hybrid has better-than-gas acceleration combined with exceptional handling and AWD.

This joy behind the wheel is bolstered by a wealth of technology to improve your comfort and convenience: a Bird’s Eye View Monitor for manoeuvering in tight spots, a smart key system, and a Hands-Free Power Back Door*.

The RAV4 Hybrid also comes with Toyota Safety Sense™ a suite of advanced safety features that will be included on virtually all Toyota models by the fall of 2017. As part of the Toyota Safety Sense ™ P package, the RAV4 Hybrid comes with a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beams

Taking everything into account, it isn’t hard to see why the RAV4 finished top of the pile to take the AJAC award. This isn’t just an SUV with the fuel efficiency of a hybrid, but the complete package to unlock new adventures, wherever you go.
