What is the Canadian Green Utility Vehicle of the Year (CGUVOTY)?
The AJAC panel awards the CGUVOTY title to vehicles that meet the standard requirements for initial entry into the Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) awards.
For the green award, AJAC combines the SUV rankings with an additional set of green criteria. Alongside an overall greenness score, the judges consider emissions and how fuel efficient each SUV is.
The RAV4 was the top-rated SUV in several key ‘green’ categories. Given that the RAV4 Hybrid is built on proven Toyota hybrid technology it is no surprise the vehicle would perform well in any comparison of fuel efficient SUVs.
When combined with its overall Canadian Car of the Year score, the 2017 RAV4 Hybrid topped the SUV rankings by some margin.
