Toyota Canada Sponsors Important National Dialogue About Racism

May 26, 2021

TORONTO, Ontario – MAY 26, 2021 –Toyota Canada is providing financial support for two Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) initiatives seeking to engage Canadians in an important national dialogue about racism in our communities.

The #BlockHate Campaign was developed by CRRF and YWCA Canada to highlight the consequences of online hate and share the stories of young Canadian women who have survived racism online. The newest element of the emotionally impactful campaign is a video featuring Carla Beauvais, a Montreal journalist who provides an eye-opening look at the hateful messages she received after launching an app to connect Black businesses to new markets.

With Toyota’s support, CRRF will be also be hosting an enlightening conversation with Asian Canadian journalists that will focus on the role of the media in shaping both positive and negative narratives around Asian ethnicity in Canada. The virtual roundtable takes place on May 28 at 2pm EST and is free to attend.Simply register here.

“We all know that much more is needed to tackle racism, and we are proud to work with Toyota Canada to foster difficult discussion and educate Canadians on the impact of racism and hate,” said Mohammed Hashim, Executive Director at Canadian Race Relations Foundation.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation was created by the Government of Canada in 1996 and is Canada’s leading agency dedicated to the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination in Canadian society.
